Welcome to my website and thank you for visiting.
Choosing a therapist can feel like a daunting task, the aim of this site is to give you an insight into what I can offer to help with your decision. You might also like to check out the Useful Information page for links to resources and websites that may be helpful in supporting you now or in addition to the therapy that you choose.
I offer a half hour meeting at no cost, where we can talk through what you are looking to achieve through counselling. Meeting with you gives you an idea of what the sessions may be like and see whether my approach might be a good fit for you.
You are welcome to contact me if there is anything you would like to check or clarify that isn't clear from this site.
About Me
Qualifications
I began my journey into becoming a therapist in 1994, gaining my Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling Certificate at Goldsmiths University. This foundation enabled me to begin my training at the Minster Centre, London. In 1997. I began the Diploma in Integrative Counselling, followed by The Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, completed in 2000. In 2003, I was awarded an MA in Humanistic & Psychodynamic Integrative Psychotherapy and registered with the UKCP.
In 2007 I completed the Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Supervision and in 2009, the Advanced Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy for Children and Families, both at The Wealden Institue, Crowborough. I completed the Mindfulness for Stress Reduction course in 2012, and more recently, in 2020 did 100 hours training with the Academy for Online Therapy, gaining a General Certificate in Online Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I chose to update my initial Supervision training, and continued at the Academy, obtaining a Diploma in Face to Face, Hybrid & Online Supervision (255 hours training) in 2023.
I am committed to engaging in CPD (Continuing Professional Development), through attending workshops and additional training, reading, and running my own CPD training for other professionals. This ensures that I stay up to date with developing theories and approaches, keeping my practice fresh and relevant.
Approach - How I work
Counselling and Psychotherapy can help people to identify, understand and manage distress. I am passionate about the potential for positive changes that Counselling and Psychotherapy can bring about. I feel honoured to have witnessed the often life-changing journeys clients have made, and it was the experience of being a client in therapy that inspired me to train. In common with Humanistic thinking, I believe that we all have the capacity to overcome life's challenges and to become the best that we can be, through finding our own answers. However, this can be difficult to do alone, and therefore, this is where counselling and psychotherapy may be beneficial. As a therapist, my role is to help you better understand how and why you think and feel as you do, enabling you to make the choices leading towards the changes that you wish to make. My aim is to offer a safe, confidential space where you can talk about what is troubling you and be really heard without fear of judgement.
As an integrated therapist, my training was in a number of approaches, some psychodynamic and some humanistic. Don’t worry too much about what this means, but you may want to Google some of the approaches that inform my practice which, amongst others. are:
Person Centered
Transactional Analysis
Gestalt
Attachment theory
Object Relations theory
Family constellations
Systemic theory
I keep up to date with new theory and thinking, and attend regular training and workshops throughout the year so that my thinking does not become “fixed” and/or outdated.
Safeguarding & Confidentiality
I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate as well as up-to-date Safeguarding training levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. My practice is GDPR complaint and I am ICO registered. My GDPR Statement can be found at the foot of each website page.
Whether in person or on line, the contents of sessions are confidential, giving you the opportunity to share and /or "offload" experiences that may have been troubling you for some time. However, as a therapist, I have a duty of care which means I am obligated to ensure that you are safe, and not at risk of harm. My confidentiality policy is HERE (link)
I facilitate workshops and training on safeguarding and risk assessment for both online and in person counselling or other psychological therapy settings. The most recent was for ACTO in April 2024, with another scheduled for October 2024. I have considerable experience in risk assessment and safeguarding in my previous Clinical Lead roles for online counselling providers.
